Destination Mountain Top Live Painting
By Kelsey Shields
Ashley and Harrison opted for a divine, intimate wedding at the top of Aspen Mountain. Through The Little Nell, you can take a 15-minute gondola ride up to the tippy-top. You are greeted by happy cornholers, people enjoying lunch, photographers capitalizing on the view, and, of course, all of the fixings of a great wedding space.
Following the paved path will bring you to an absolutely luxurious ceremony site. Dramatic mountains extend peak after peak after ever more beautiful peak. An artist's dream. Directly behind the floral arrangements, where the couple will say their "I dos", are dramatic pine trees standing in silhouette as well as a couple of aspen trees, the gem of Aspen, Colorado during the height of fall color.
"An Artist's Dream."
After stuffing my art supplies into the gondola around 1 pm and unloading my canvas and easel at this prime-time ceremony site, I set up my watercolors for cocktail hour guest portraits. A & H prioritized their closest friends and family by gifting them with custom watercolor portraits and prioritized their moment with an acrylic painting of them and their two children in the stunning landscape where they officially became one big, happy family.
By the end of the evening, the 24" x 30" canvas acrylic painting had captured the beautiful ceremony landscape. The romantic couple and their two children would be added later in the studio. There was also a substantial stack of watercolor portraits (each a memorable wedding keepsake painting), of the couple and their guests to take home that night.
Around 11 pm, as kids and adults alike danced late into the night, I walked the paved path back to the gondola and prepared for a dark and very quiet ride down the mountain. The first time I found myself in a pitch-black gondola, it hit me that this is an experience not everybody gets to have. It has become my favorite way to calm down after the whirlwind of hours upon hours of creating as quickly and as well as I possibly can. Yes, this is physically demanding, but it is also a mental game to pump out high-quality artwork. As the gondola hits each tower, it gives off a low drum that soothes the mind and the adrenaline begins to dissipate.
Ashely's kind words about her custom wedding artwork and the experience hiring a live event artist:
"VERY highly recommend Kelsey for your wedding! Kelsey painted our ceremony in addition to guest portraits for our wedding and everything turned out incredibly beautiful! Our ceremony painting is so special and the guest portraits were the perfect gift for everyone in attendance. Kelsey was great to work with, very kind and ridiculously talented. Her work is one of our favorite details about our wedding that added a touch of elegance and beautiful artwork we will have forever!"
As with every event, all credit goes to the team who made it happen and our wonderful couple who gathered us all. Together, we create beautiful things.
